Tests & Achievement Badges

The Pony Club training structure encourages members to take badges and tests which enable them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The tests are taken at recommended ages and are designed with certain objectives in mind.

Pony Club Tests (Standards of Efficiency) are designed to assess riding ability and knowledge of horse and pony care in a structured way. The tests range in difficulty starting at ‘E’ and progressing to ‘A’, the most difficult and prestigious. The tests must be attempted in succession and some also provide exemption from BHS Stage Exams, providing an excellent grounding for those interested in a career in the equine industry.

Achievement Badges cover both equine and non-equine subjects and, as each one is passed, the appropriate cloth badge can be sewn onto your Pony Club sweatshirt. There are many badges that a member can achieve covering both equine and non-equine. Your instructor and parent will be able to help you learn what is required to gain your Achievement Badges, some of the subjects may have already been taught in school. A separate leaflet explaining these badges is available from the Riding School.

The Coaching Certificate gives older Members a sound base of coaching knowledge, enabling them to teach a group of riders up to C Test standard, and a group of C+ Test standard for horse care.

At the Riding School, we have instructors helping you achieve the required standard to pass these tests and can answer any questions you may have.
